EUROPEAN EXCHANGE

Over the past few years, MIFET has been dynamic in initiating and developing broader educational links within Europe. A number of highly successful exchange projects have resulted.

The Irish Institute for European Affairs in Leuven, Belgium hosted four Hotel, Catering and Tourism students for their industrial placement in 1993 under the PETRA programme.

The LINGUA project of 1995/6 involved a joint exchange of MIFET Computer and Business students with their Portugeese counterparts. Staff at the Institute are involved on an ongoing basis in cross cultural programmes. The SOCRATES project during 1996/7 linked MIFET with European partners- Kursuscentre, Denmark and Pontypridd College, Wales in the development of a European Studies Module

n to develop an interest in following a career where I could help vulneralbe people in some way. On my return, I decided to do the Heatlth Care Support course at MIFET. The course provided training in a broad range of caring areas. We touched on Child Development, Special Needs and Home Care, enabling me to work with children and the elderly. The MIFET teaching staff were very helpful and I really enjoyed work placement which was fulfilling as I got an opportunity to put the theory I had learned in class into practice. I worked in the Holy Family School, Coothill and also with Alzheimer's patients in St Mary's, Castleblayney. Through this I now get work with the Louth Co Hospital, as I am on their panel of healthcare workers on call. I am very glad I chose Healthcare Support because it opened up a broad range of job opportunities for me. I am currently studying for a degree in Social Care at Dundalk IT.
