Leaving Certificate with 5 passes (preferably to include Mathematics) or Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent. If you are a mature student these requirements need not apply and applications may be considered based on a proven interest in gaming design/programming. Entry may be subject to interview.

structureCourse Structure

Learners are provided with the opportunity to critique a variety of games, explore game design processes and improve awareness of the design considerations involved with different gaming genres. Gain hands-on experience of the latest technologies in gaming to create and program computer games. Work Experience also forms an integral part of this course.

Game Based Learning (GBL) has proven to be the most effective method for training in industry, offering simulations and problem scenarios in a securely designed environment. The skills for problem solving, design and analysis developed through the study of this QQI Level 5 Certificate in Software Development will enable learners to progress to the Advanced Certificate Level 6 in Software Development at Monaghan Institute or to relevant degree programmes at Universities/Institutes of Technology.  The course will also allow learners develop the skills and confidence to directly enter the jobs market or to embrace self-employment.
